Raised beds?

So given the plan of the garden, the big question is, should I plant it up using rows or build raised beds? There is a certain kind of appeal to the raised bed -it should be easier to manage, provides a simple way to do crop rotation in a small space and soil condition can easily be varied from bed to bed. Any gains from denser planting will probably be negated by the space required for pathways, however. The obvious problem with raised beds is the initial work to put them in. You can buy kits which look OK, but are a little pricey. Or I could build my own out of fencing gravel board, which means I have to be sure that it hasn't been treated with anything toxic.

Oh decisions, decisions.
